Publisher Description

Set in the world of bestselling computer game ELITE, and launched to tie in with the latest version, ELITE: DANGEROUS - a game almost 20 years in the making. One of three very distinct - but subtly linked - novels written by major authors who are fans of the game, this novel will be a must-buy not only the 25,000+ people who funded the new game on kickstarter, but also for all of those fans of the original game.

On what might be the worst planet in the universe, a young man dreams of the stars. Adventure! Lasers! Women! And the ultimate goal - to become Elite!

Unfortunately, Misha has to do his chores first. And learn how to talk to Phoebe, the beautiful customs officer. And leave the planet.

But the death of a famous author unexpectedly drags Misha and Phoebe into a system-wide conspiracy, complete with smuggling, international art thieves, multi-system corporations, canapés and exploding pigs. This is Misha's chance to prove he has what it takes!

After all, surely anyone can be Elite if they dream...

Pretty good, humorous

It’s good to see the lighter side of Elite, and this book does well to create an interesting and light hearted story. The drawbacks are that there isn’t any real space combat, and references to the actual in game universe are sort of sparse. In theory the book could take place in it’s own universe and survive equally well, so if you’re looking for a good lore source this isn’t it. But for what it is it kept me reading and gave me a good laugh or two.

Not about that kind of docking...

As an Aimless, Mostly Harmless Merchant I have a lot of time for reading while galloping across the cosmos in my Cobra mk III or Lakon Type 6 so naturally I decided to purchase every bit of Elite fiction. Little did I realize that not only does this little gem take place in my favorite game world but that it's also incredibly humorous. Spoiler: Any book that depicts a shirtless president wrestling multiple animals at once is easily worth 2.5 stars. I give it another 1.5 for for making fun of Russians and another full star for the "graphic sex." Note: does not fully, moderately or actually come close to describing "graphic sex."

A good read

Borrowing heavily from the absurd style of "A Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy", this story is a decent one.
The main characters a likeable, and if the more fantastic aspects of sci-fi like ocular implants or brow implanted holo displays are to ones liking this should be an enjoyable story.
Right on, Commander!
