THE NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER
Elvis Presley’s fiancée and last love tells her story and sets the record straight in this deeply personal memoir that reveals what really happened in the final years of the King of Rock n' Roll.
Elvis Presley and Graceland were fixtures in Ginger Alden’s life; after all, she was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. But she had no idea that she would play a part in that enduring legacy. For more than three decades Ginger has held the truth of their relationship close to her heart. Now she shares her unique story…
In her own words, Ginger details their whirlwind romance—from first kiss to his stunning proposal of marriage. And for the very first time, she talks about the devastating end of it all and the fifty thousand mourners and reporters who descended on Graceland in 1977, exposing Ginger to the reality of living in the spotlight of a short yet immortal life.
Above it all, Ginger rescues Elvis from the hearsay, rumors, and tabloid speculations of his final year by shedding a frank yet personal light on a very public legend. From a unique and intimate perspective, she reveals the man—complicated, romantic, fallible, and human—behind the myth, a superstar worshipped by millions and loved by Ginger Alden.

Alden, a fiancee of Presley, prompted to tell her story because of a conversation with her son about the legend, shares her memories. However, she sheds no new light on Elvis and doesn't allow glimpses below the surface of her own life with him. In September 1976, Presley invited Alden's sister Terry, who has just won the Miss Tennessee beauty title, to visit him at Graceland, and she asks if she can bring her sisters. To everyone's surprise, he asks Ginger, not Terry, to stay around and visit with him in private. Eventually, he requests that Ginger join him on his tours, whisking her away in private jets, putting her up in private suites, and sitting her backstage where he can see her during his shows. In just a couple of months, he becomes her "mentor, lover, and protector." Fewer than eight months after they meet, she finds Elvis sprawled on the floor of his bathroom, breathing his final breaths. Presley emerges from Alden's memoir as an eccentric, jealous, and needy person who confuses monetary generosity with love.

elvis and ginger
This was a quick, easy read. Very simple and to the point. I think it was great to hear Gingers side of things in the whole mythology of Elvis. I couldn't imagine being 20 years old in the middle of all that! Not a masterpiece, but very poignant.

My dad was a big Elvis fan, he passed away this year (2024) in April. Reading this book to dig deeper on Elvis’ life was so awesome for me and connected me to the reason my dad was an Elvis fan. He play his songs on his guitar and as we’d sing together. He’d always say when I was a kid “someday” we will go to Graceland. Sadly, we never made a trip to Graceland. My hope now is that he has met Elvis in heaven walking on those streets of gold. This book was well put together on the kind of person Elvis was as I learned how giving and kindness he had towards others. Ginger did so many things with Elvis in a short 9 months but reading the book seemed like she’d spent many years with Elvis. She was definitely his companion and they had big plans in the near future before he died which is still extremely sad when reading the heartbreak of that part in her storyline. Ginger is a very strong person and handled everything she went through with Elvis and the people around him with great strength and respect until the day he passed away. Good read!! ♥️🎸🙏
