The young queen of Niapachad Island sought out Thomas "Tom," the Earl of Raine, to find a wife similar to those of his two friends who are happily wedded to their spouses. Before he happened upon a lady who caught his attention, Tom had no idea who he could trust to be his wife. 

Lady Jessica 'Jessie' Cole has been looking forward to her days of being a debutante. She was getting close to 25 years old and, if she survived, would be content to live out her days in the country with her cats. However, Jessie was forced to flee even further when Earl of Raine, a member of the Higher Court, attempted to impress her with his wealth and connections.
