Emma and the Tech Guy was a romantic comedy about two characters who met at the workplace. Emma and Guy were the main characters with many minor characters. The story was about Emma relaunching the publication of New You's fashion magazine. Emma was a workaholic who spent an exorbitant amount of time working at the office not leaving much time to form friendships.
Emma's character was serious not very playful or flirty. Her personal life was organized and structured. Emma was unfamiliar with the etiquette of providing emotional support to friends and co-workers. She came across as awkward.
Emma and Guy were likable characters as business co-workers. I did not feel any spark or connection between the two. I felt the forbidden ness of the situation weighed too heavily on Emma's mind. Emma was hesitant and unaware of an attraction formulating between her and Guy creating awkward moments.
A romantic comedy is defined as a love themed story with a happy ending. The function of a comedy is to entertain and amuse the reader. My definition for comedy varied from Lia's definition. Apparently, there are 20 forms of humor and Lia stated this would be fun, witty, and hilarious. Either the delivery of these scenes didn't reach the intended laugh factor for me or my sense of humor is different. I smiled and smirked a few times but I certainly was not rolling on the floor with laughter. When I hear the word romantic my mind immediately imagines an emotional connection between two characters. I didn't find an emotional connection between two characters in this story. Emma's guilt for withholding a secret from co-workers whom she forged friendships with caused her character to have many regrets. Emma's character questioned herself and Guy's reactions and behavior to what was a building friendship.
I had a different mindset for this romantic comedy. When Guy became the tech guy at Emma's employment I envisioned a different scenario of events to take place. Emma had a secret she kept from her employer and with a new tech employee I was sure the secret was hidden in some computer file. “If he was the snooping around type, he’d discover something that could completely crush me—something I’ve been able to keep hidden for years”. There was too much hype for this secret. My mind went into a completely different direction. All this buzz for this epic secret and when it was all said and done it felt anticlimactic.
Emma vs. the Tech Guy - Loved It
I have read several of Ms. Fairchild's books & this is another winner! I loved the characters and setting for the story...the ending was not what I was expecting...I loved it! Thank you for an enjoyable read!
