Emma Emma

출판사 설명

An Apple Books Classic edition.

Emma Woodhouse may just be Jane Austen’s most controversial character. Some see her as a spoiled narcissist who’s deluded about reality, while others view her as a well-intentioned and bitingly sarcastic young woman who matures before our eyes.

This well-loved novel-which is often adapted for the screen-is set in the early 19th century, among England’s landed gentry. After seeing her governess happily married, Emma decides she is a natural matchmaker and devises a plan to find her new friend Harriet a mate. What follows has all the makings of a contemporary soap opera. As usual, Austen portrays her contemporaries with a brilliant and subtle snark. Emma is a wonderfully entertaining read.

Emma, a reading challenge.

This book was difficult for me to read without bumping in to the double negatives, the outdated spelling, the constant worrying about what other characters think.

I enjoyed the humor.

A Classic! And a MUST-READ!

"Emma" is a delightful masterpiece that showcases Jane Austen's unparalleled wit and keen insight into human nature. The story of Emma Woodhouse, a charming yet somewhat misguided young woman, is a perfect blend of humor, romance, and social commentary.

Austen's writing is both elegant and accessible, drawing readers into the quaint world of early 19th-century England. The characters are richly developed, each with their own quirks and complexities, making them feel remarkably real. Emma's journey of self-discovery is both entertaining and enlightening, and her interactions with the endearing Mr. Knightley provide a wonderful exploration of friendship and love.

The novel is not just a romance; it’s a keen observation of social hierarchies, misunderstandings, and the importance of personal growth. Austen’s sharp dialogue and clever plotting keep the reader engaged, and the twists and turns are as satisfying as they are insightful.

Overall, "Emma" is a timeless classic that resonates with anyone who has ever tried to play matchmaker—or navigate the intricacies of relationships. It’s a book that leaves you both smiling and pondering long after you’ve turned the last page. Highly recommended!
