Watching Emma transform

Emma is one of my favorite books, if not my favorite. Watching the main character transform from a selfish, spoiled and unkind young woman, into someone who is self aware, self-critical,
generous and humble… and all this, through the power of true friendship and love, was heartwarming. I have always believed that true love meant trying hard to help our loved one become their better self, and having conversations about things that
are real and important and difficult, and that is what the main relationship in this novel exemplifies. Of course, all this Jane Austin accomplishes with the blend of humor, light-heartedness and cynicism that are unique to her style, and I appreciated that both the male and female leads (as well as other characters) had a wonderful sense of humor in this novel.
