Publisher Description

Between her time as a radio host, television figure, and social media personality, Danni Starr has never been afraid of sharing her opinion. In this book, she takes you on a whirlwind tour of her own life and beyond, with plenty of personal perspective and #BlackGirlMagic to go around.

From her struggles with workplace discrimination to the wild Rumspringa of her post-divorce months, from postpartum depression to the joys of friendship, Danni tells her story with honesty, humor, and moxie to spare. Despite its lows, life has given her plenty of joys—good friends, an empathetic gift, lovely daughters, and a great pair of eyebrows. They’re unorthodox weapons to be sure, but with them she’s faced down everything that’s been thrown at her and forged a wicked set of survival skills in the process!

Let Danni take you on an entertaining, enlightening, and engaging tour through her life. All you need to join is some empathy—and, with any luck, the brows to match.

A Good Debut!

This book is one that I feel a lot of individuals would benefit from. It tells an important story and I loved the wealth of knowledge in it, not just from Danni, but rather her experiences and external words of wisdom. It was enjoyable reading her candor on a lot of topics, some of which are often times swept under the rug by others. It’s refreshing to hear true voice in literature, I’ve read a plethora of work where I can tell that people are giving you an abstract picture of their life. If you’re going to be bold and write a memoir then at least have the respect to be frank and honest. Danni Starr definitely did that and I found myself smiling quite a bit because of it.
Being an impartial critic brings me to the central issues of this book. While I was able to follow 90% of the book, there will be several readers who struggle with the disjointed timeline. There are several times when Danni jumps back and forth between her divorce, marriage, and pregnancy, and you find yourself asking “where exactly are we in her life events?” So while the messages still retain power, that happenstance hurts the flow of the novel. The second thing that stood out to me as an editor is the repetitiveness and extra fluff that would have read better upon refinement. There were a few grammatical errors, which realistically happens with even well-known authors. Thus, I’ll give it a pass for not being excessive.
For a first time author, this book is impressive. Danni is a good storyteller, I feel as if her podcast and radio presence admonishes this just a hair better than this book, but it’s worth reading and buying. There are several quotes that replayed in my mind as I read the book and in many ways assisted in my own personal healing process. While, everyone may not be able to relate to every aspect of this book, you may find a shade of yourself in these words of sincerity.
