Well written and seems to have been very meticulously researched. Great insight into life in the Forbidden City.
Dry Bones
Detailed descriptions of palaces and gardens, political and social complexities but no rounded and fulsome flesh on the bones to engage my imagination. Pearl.S. Buck’s ‘Imperial Woman’ still rules. this era for me
