Ryan Gallagher is the one who does the dirty work. The brute force in the Harrison Street Crew, he lives to have the club all for his own one day. But the one thing he can’t have is Megan Mahoney—the one woman he’s loved since she was a teenager who needed saving.
Megan never forgot the all-consuming passion she felt for Ryan, her larger-than-life, wild teenage love. But coming from a hard, shocking past has left her broken and scared—and untrusting of the Harrison Street Crew. Ten years later, she’s back in Ryan’s world to claim a promise he made to her years ago. 3.5 Stars!
Third book in the series focuses on Megan and Ryan. While each book in the series focuses on a different couple, there is a bigger picture to the full series. I would not advise reading this as a standalone if you want to understand everything that is going on.
The big picture is a politician, Remy, is advocating cleaning up Southie of the car gangs to get elected. What you start to learn is Remy is dirtier than these car gangs he wants to eradicate. With each book his dirty hands are working in the background to set up individual members of the HSC.
In this book we learn more about Megan, daughter to HSC member Boots and Ryan, another member. In the beginning we get a very clear picture of how horrible Megan and her sister, Shannon have it with their drugged up mom and her boyfriend who has no qualms touching underage girls. It's not a pretty picture the author gives us, but also a way to explain how Megan has become such a strong as nails woman in adulthood and the demons she is fighting.
At 16, her dad finally learned enough about their living situation to get them out of their moms home. Ryan was there that day to help Boots and saw what Megan went through. He made a promise to her that she is now collecting 10 years later.
I really like Katana Collins writing. For not really liking the car gang storyline, she has still pulled me into the story wanting to see how this plays out. You get a "Fast and the Furious" feel about these guys in the HSC with the street racing and stealing cars. There is also a biker feel with how they all stick together and watch each other's backs.
All members are the anti-hero type. Deep down they are good men who do bad things to help others. There are triggers in this book with what Megan dealt with as a child. There is also a lot of push/pull between the main characters. Ryan is protective of Megan but also to the point of protecting her from himself.
If you are a fan of this type of book, Katana Collins does an amazing job of writing an intense storyline that will pull you right into the story. ARC provided by NetGalley.
