Kate ia a doctor in a Dublin maternity hospital where a glamourous French woman arrives in a desperate emergency, and Kate has to make a life and death decision. She saves the woman and the baby’s life, but the surgery goes disasterously wrong.... She discovers that the glamourous French patient is the wife of Jonny – her husband Dave’s best friend and the real love of her life. But Dave and Jonny are no longer speaking, and neither of them will tell Kate why. 


Ronan Clare is the kind and cuddly paediatrician who works hard to keep Jonny and Marianne’s baby alive, and during their long nights at work together finds himself secretly falling in love with Kate. 


Jonny easily persuades Kate to travel via Paris where he’s just got back from the Sudan, and so at the same time Marianne is airlifted back to Paris by Ronan Clare and Nick the anaesthetist who has just started an affair with Dave, Kate and Jonny are also in Paris in the midst of their own messy entanglement.
