What happens when your past catches up with your present? I'm not sure I want to know.
Five years ago, my childhood sweetheart left me with more than a broken heart as his band rose to stardom. I've tried to move on and build a life without him.
I should've known the peace wouldn't last. Eventually, his band would come home, and I'd be forced to face the dreamy bassist who still owns my heart. But I've been hiding something and my secret is about to be revealed.
As much as I don't want his flaky lifestyle impacting my daughter — our daughter — I can't lie anymore. Dan still makes my heart flutter and steals my breath.
He's sure we can pick up where we left off now that he's not touring. But I'm not the carefree girl anymore, and I'm not sure I can let him in again, not when someone else's heart is on the line.
Will I listen when my head says no? Or will he be able to entice my heart once more?

Ignorance on both sides
What guy thinks he can swoop back into a past flame’s life after five years of no contact and magically pick up where they left off? Dan. Why? Because he still loves her and they should be together. Should be reason enough for her to acquiesce, no? Rather, she should happily jump back into his arms.
What woman is overly “pick me over your music” and bi-polar as eff when it comes to giving him a second chance? Mel. I get it, there is a child involved, but still.
Let’s get something straight, she has some serious daddy issues. Daddy was a musician and wasn’t around as much and missed out on some of her milestones. So when she hooks up with a musician and to her the only options are a “me or the music” mentality, a girl is delusional. It’s as if compromising and planning ahead don’t exist.
Also, who spends months planning a four year old’s birthday party? I could throw it all together in a week. Two, including asking a baker for a cake.
Again, with this one, there is a third act break up and you see it from a mile away. The inevitable fork in the road music event vs. personal commitment-happens and she loses her mind and goes full blown woe is me, he’s just like my dad, he’s going to pay for all the hurt my daddy caused me.
Grow up and learn to have an adult conversation.
This book hit some nerves, I don’t like weak females that constantly play the victim. But again, I kept reading. Almost finished it out of spite.
It’s ok at best. Not really interested in Jared’s story. May take a break or skip it.
