Understated and moving . An important book for all time . We must remember .
I read my first Ernie Pyle book in the early 70’s when I was in high school. My father shared a memory of when he was in high school . His father , my grandfather ( not hard to figure out ) was away in WWII fighting in the army . My dad read Ernie Pyle’s dispatches in the local paper . He told me he just could not believe it when Ernie died . When I went to England and France in the 1980’s I was reminded many times of Americans being in England during the war . For instance when visiting St Paul’s I was bowled over by the inscription on one of the floors dedicating the alter to American servicemen . This book gives a look into the lives of Everyman at that time as only Ernie Pyle can do . Best book I’ve read in a long while . Highly recommend .
Ernie Pyle was one of the greats
I loved this picture of wartime England and am going to read the rest of his books that I have not read yet.
