Fanny Burney (1752-1840) was an English writer working in the genre of epistolary novel. Her literary legacy counts up to four novels, eight plays, one biography and twenty volumes of journals and letters. Fanny Burney is considered a predecessor of such a genre as ‘novel of manners’ - the genre of Jane Austen and Thackeray. In her works Burney explored the day-to-day life of the english upper-class.
