Publisher Description
Evelina is the daughter of an English aristocrat, but is brought up in the country until her seventeenth birthday, because she is of dubious birth and unacknowledged. Once out in London and Bristol-Hotwells, Evelina learns through a series of humorous events how to navigate society, and a nobleman falls in love with her. This sentimental novel with its satirical remarks on society significantly influenced later, similar works, such as those by Jane Austen.

My favorite book!
I didn't think anyone could top Austen, but Fanny Burney does just that. A must-read!
Evelina
If you like Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austin, meet the outstanding predecessor. Evelina is an epistolary novel set in the early 18th century about a young, naive girl who is a hapless victim to Society's fickle and pretentious characters. Ultimately her sweetness and purity win the heart of the dashing leading lord after a series of hilarious misunderstandings and misconstrued signals. Fanny Burney wrote this novel after having been a Lady in Waiting for the Queen. A classic and a treasure.
