Publisher Description

In her short story collection, Even Greater Mistakes, Charlie Jane Anders upends genre cliches and revitalizes classic tropes with heartfelt and pants-wettingly funny social commentary.

The woman who can see all possible futures is dating the man who can see the one and only foreordained future.

A wildly popular slapstick filmmaker is drawn, against his better judgment, into working with a fascist militia, against a background of social collapse.

Two friends must embark on an Epic Quest To Capture The Weapon That Threatens The Galaxy, or else they’ll never achieve their dream of opening a restaurant.

The stories in this collection, by their very outrageousness, achieve a heightened realism unlike any other. Anders once again proves she is one of the strongest voices in modern science fiction, the writer called by Andrew Sean Greer, “this generation’s Le Guin.”

Wide Ranging Collection of Great Shorter Works

Charlie Jane Anders has become an accomplished author. She has novels, young adult books, and non-fiction to her credit. But this collection showcases her shorter works. These include short stories as well as the longer “Rock Manning Goes for Broke.”

Some of these stories are related to her novels, and tie up a loose end, or tell us what happens next. Some are independent stories triggered by a incident or idea. Some were previously written for a specific anthology, others were just concepts she wanted to explore.

Before each story, Ms. Anders tells us what was the inspiration for the story. She also provides a listing of trigger warnings where appropriate for those that have specific sensitivities. I found the latter helpful to get myself ready for potentially disturbing content.

This was intended to be a varied anthology, and it is indeed a smorgasbord of content. This is not a “best of” it is instead a introspective and more complete collection. It includes things previously printed in diverse places, so it tidily makes these stories available to the reader.
