Cute Concept
I love the format of these collection of short stories, all centered around what could be a catastrophic event of the sky literally falling. Each story features a couple and romantic plot: former lovers turned enemies who spun the block; childhood crushes and fantasies come true; enemies with secret crushes; book store owners and a shy book shopper; a Thor-like handyman and frazzled homeowner; and college rivals back for an award dinner. This is such a cute concept and the relationships described are swoon worthy. But here is my gripe with romances, there is all of this inner monologue, but no interaction with setting, other characters, life…everything revolves around the love interest. I get it, that’s the genre, and l’m a fan, but it always reminds me why I need the depth, the substance of literature.
