Ruthie Knox (Ride With Me) and Annie Mare, writing as Marvel, send 30-something movie star Katie Price back to her hometown for a month to relax and write her first screenplay, in this cute contemporary. Instead, Katie gets swept up in reconnecting with her high school best friend, TikTok star Wil Greene, under the guise of investigating the secret life of one of their high school teachers, whom they suspected as teenagers of adultery. The pair agree that if the teacher is just cheating on his wife, Katie wins, and Wil has to get her life together and reapply to law school. If, however, the teacher also has a secret second family, Wil wins, and Katie has to appear on Wil's TikTok where she posts videos of herself kissing different strangers for one minute. Despite 13 years apart, the women quickly fall back into their slightly flirty friendship, but before they can begin to deepen their relationship, they must both consider how Katie's fame will affect their future. The framework of the bet is fun, but goes out the window pretty quickly as the heroines' love story takes shape. Meanwhile the limited, quick glimpses of Katie and Wil's past don't do quite enough to ground their present connection, making the relationship development feel a bit rushed. Once the women are together, however, it's easy to see their chemistry. This is heartwarming.

Fantastic, Fabulous, Fascinating
I’m a newbie to romance as a genre of novel. I’ve only ever read 13 of them. Those 13 have all been within the last 14 days, but my experience is nonetheless limited.
Having said that, I feel overwhelmingly confident in saying that this title is unlikely to budge from the upper echelons of my favorite novels anytime soon, if ever.
It has SUCH a talent with dialogue. It has an unbelievable talent with dialogue. Wil and Katie flirting for the first time felt like I’d opened a new door for how flirting dialogue could be written.
No shade to the other 13 romance novels, which all have their own strengths, but this book does dialogue between characters, particularly flirting, better than little else I’ve read. It feels like you are reading a real, natural conversation. I adore it.
My only complaint is of a personal taste. I like it when queer writing has friction between the rest of the world and queerness. You won’t find any of that here. Queerness as an identity isn’t the focus of the book (although there are some extremely brief but utterly delightful gender thoughts from Katie) and is simply a fact of life everyone accepts and no one is even slightly discomforted by.
For many of us queer folks, this is probably a selling point, and I am endlessly sympathetic to wanting an escape in fiction. But for me it chafes at times, pulls me out of the embrace of a book’s carefully and patiently generated world.
But, as I said, that is purely a personal preference. I don’t think it is a statement about the quality of the book, which is to my mind unimpeachable. Of my 13 romance novels in 14 days, this one has the best romance of all. I felt such delight in reading it, and hope you will too.

This book is outrageous, sexy, and tender. It’s about want, being loved, and being seen. Will be thinking about it for a long time.
