Executive Action

Conrad's company had carved out a niche for itself. An intentionally small niche so they could stay under the radar. They treated their people better than most and they were successful, especially at keeping their secret: their actual goal was saving the world.

Then they found the fissure.

The space/time fissure to 61 Cygni should have made Conrad's company rich. Zero travel time, easy access near the asteroid belt and its commercial hubs — the economic upside was staggering!

Except having and keeping the fissure are two different things. Corporations and governments want those resources. They want them very, very badly. Badly enough to destroy anything in their way.

If Conrad can't find a way to fend them off, he won't only lose his company. He'll lose his life, and the lives of everyone he cares about. Because for corporations in 2710, prisoners are not cost effective.
