The incidence of work-related musculoskeletal disorders among sonographers has gone up over the past 12 years. Although these injuries result from multiple causes, an important prevention measure is self-care. This is something over which the individual sonographer has control.
Adequate rest, weight control and exercise all contribute to muscle & joint health. Many of our work activities make significant demand on our muscles, yet we don’t warm them up and get them ready for the loads they will bear.
Performing these exercises at least once a day will help strengthen and stretch your muscles. You can perform these at the beginning of your workday and then repeat them as you feel necessary. As always, with any exercise program, your physician should ensure that it is safe for you to do these exercises.
