Lena Diaz launches her thrilling new series featuring the undercover vigilantes of EXIT Inc. with a skilled operative putting his life—and his heart—on the line for a woman in trouble
When Sabrina Hightower awakens to the sound of an intruder, she figures he's there to rob her, murder her— or worse. She doesn't expect to be carried off by a muscle-bound stud with male-model good looks . . . or that he came to rescue her.
Mason Hunt became an enforcer with EXIT Inc. to eliminate the bad guys—terrorists, militia groups, all those who would do America harm. But his latest target is innocent. If EXIT could lie about sultry, strong-willed Sabrina, what darker truths might they be concealing?
Going rogue in the rugged North Carolina mountains, Mason risks everything to keep Sabrina close, especially now that EXIT's lethal assassins are chasing them down. The heat is on . . . but it's nothing compared to the slow burn of seduction.
Romantic suspense author Diaz (the Deadly Games series) launches a series with this fast-paced and completely unlikely tale of pursuit. Sabrina Hightower moves to North Carolina to investigate the deaths of her brother and parents, as well as the mysterious disappearance of her grandfather. Before she makes any progress, she's attacked by sexy assassin Mason Hunt. He never fails to take out his target, but when he realizes that Sabrina is not actually a terrorist, he snatches her in an effort to protect her from his employer, EXIT Inc., a well-intentioned but completely disorganized company of vigilantes. Once they're on the run together from EXIT, Sabrina is improbably Mason's match in valor and marksmanship, even without her glasses. Her skill is a powerful aphrodisiac that leads to romance despite the relentless pursuit that interrupts every clinch. The complete absence of a believable plot or convincing characters will not prevent fans of romantic thrillers from enjoying this sizzling, jeopardy-filled chase.
downtime is limited. I was constantly coming out of my chair, tense, nervous and edgy
From the very beginning, it seemed as if there was a twist, turn or new danger each time I turned the page. Normally I gravitate to reads that bring me tension from the characters and their inability to get things straight, and I’m like that in real life, I am not a fan of surprises that I can’t control. But, despite my having to leave ALL the lights on and sit with my back in the corner so nothing could jump out at me…
Mason works for EXIT, a private contracting hush-hush company that does the dirty work for companies and government agencies who need to claim ignorance. His latest assignment is the termination of Sabrina, a woman who is deemed to know ‘more than she should’ and apparently is unwilling to sit quietly. Oh Sabrina was a hoot: she has a finely honed sense of justice, isn’t afraid to defend herself or speak her mind, and she is determined to find answers to questions she still has.
Together Mason and Sabrina are intriguing: there is serious chemistry, he’s intrigued by her determination, and isn’t quite sure that his mission is one that is necessary. And then – danger, peril a villain (or several) and secondary characters add depth and complexity to the story while making the moments of downtime between them shine and sparkle. Touches of heat add more intrigue as the chemistry between these two is off the chains but downtime is limited. I was constantly coming out of my chair, tense, nervous and edgy until the end. Exhausting, but I couldn’t put it down. I’ll be in the line to read the next.
I received a paperback copy of the title from the publisher via Avon Addicts for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.
