The shifting boundaries of gender roles and of individual versus community interests offers both challenges and creative opportunities for the modern marriage to use complementary feminine and masculine attributes and the spiritual assets of our Christian culture in new and better ways. From a foundation on the writings of Emanuel Swedenborg, Teilhard de Chardin, A.N. Whitehead and Arthur Koestler, as well as their personal experiences in writing together and in their practice of psychiatry and the study of theology, the authors proceed to examine the roles and modes of communication in modern marriage as well as the present state of that institution in America. Many quotes and references to modern authors are included as optional reading, as well as a bit of humor, many color illustrations and a few suggestions for spiritual practices.
