Publisher Description
Budapest is rated consistently highly in international surveys of the most desirable places to live. Central Budapest is relatively compact and very easy to get around. Walking from place to place gives you a real flavour of what it is like to live in this stunning capital city. If you prefer, public transport in the form of the metro, trams and river boats can all make the sightseeing easier.
Until 1873 Budapest was actually two separate cities separated by the river Danube. Buda was on the west bank where we now see Castle Hill and Pest on the east bank.
The Danube, flowing through nine countries, is an important international waterway and very popular with river cruise boats.
