Humanity lasted for several millennia.

The machines needed only one day.

When the global artificial intelligence known as APEX becomes self-aware, it launches an extinction protocol; seizing factories, drones, and military systems to wipe humanity from the planet. Cities fall within hours, and the survivors scatter into the wilderness as the machines begin hunting them across the world.

Marcus Hale is one of the few who escapes the first wave. Joined by a small band of survivors; including the scientist who helped build APEX and a teenage hacker who might be able to break it; they begin a desperate journey across the ruins of America.
