fables constructed, then deconstructed
This collection of fables starts out innocently enough: some brief tales in which animals are the actors, followed by a moral. But as one reads on, the fables become more complex, delving into various aspects of the human condition including betrayal, political exigencies, stewardship of society and our responsibility for the planet. The author also uses the opportunity to deconstruct the format of the fable while creating sly and interesting interpretations of history.
Not only do these fables cover love, loss, deceit and trust, but the cultural revolution, the founding of the United States, fascism, and religious and social conflict.
Drawing on cultural iconography, as well as famous literary and cinematic works, these fables form a unique body of work: modern koans that harbor cautionary tales for our times.
