Don't waste your time or money
If you're going to portray them as the greatest warriors in the emperioum, stick with it. If you're going to portray them as barely above average soldiers, stick with it. If you're going to portray them as pathetic emotional females who are clueless and are only noticed because they look hot in battle armor and some go into battle naked, stick with it! But don't try to do all three at the same time!
This is my first Adepta Soritas book and will most definitely be my last. This will also be the last James Swallow book I purchase as well.
It seems like James wrote a short story and decided to go back and plus it up with chapters of prayer and pointless babble that you expect from females in a soap opera. You could literally read the first couple chapters then the last two and not miss anything important. You'd be much happier you in the end if you do. There is way to much build up to a surprisingly pathetic final battle in which one angry Soritas who has been getting her but kicked the entire story decides she ready for the book to end as well. Battling the strongest Psyker in the Imperium since the Emperor himself, she just casually walks up to him saying another one of her prayers and stabs him, THE END. Thanks for wasting hours of my life James. More time was spent describing the nude Sisters Repentia than the one page grand finale.
For most of the story the the Sisters are getting their butts kicked and almost raped (literally). Then in short spurts they are the equivalent to the Astartes. Then right back to being PMSing, emotional, clueless women who get manipulated and used by their male counter parts in the church.
Do not waste your time or money on this book, you have been warned.
