Princess Cleo of Mytica confronts violence for the first time in her life when a shocking murder sets her kingdom on a path to collapse. Once a privileged royal, Cleo must now summon the strength to survive in this new world and fight for her rightful place as Queen.

The King of Limeros’s son, Magnus, must plan each footstep with shrewd, sharp guile if he is to earn his powerful father’s trust, while his sister, Lucia, discovers a terrifying secret about her heritage that will change everything.

Rebellious Jonas lashes out against the forces of oppression that have kept his country cruelly impoverished—and finds himself the leader of a people’s revolution centuries in the making.

Witches, if found, are put to death, and Watchers, immortal beings who take the shape of hawks to visit the human world, have been almost entirely forgotten. A vicious power struggle quickly escalates to war, and these four young people collide against each other and the rise of elementia, the magic that can topple kingdoms and crown a ruler in the same day.

Disapointing

It has potential. I’ll give it that. It was just predictatble and undersatisfying. The romance was poorly executed. For example, the characters express love for one another and then he dies. All in less than two pages. There was no time for me to fall in love with the relationship too. I couldn’t cry when he died, because I didn’t know him. There was also love between a “brother” and “sister.” And while not related, again it was just porrly executed. He kisses her, and it was just cringey. Not to mention I feel like all the characters have a personality disorder. Marcus, who I thought was my favorite character, is nice, and then horrible, and then nice, and then horrible and so for. And the women in the novel are weak and pathetic. One girl, who has powers greater than anyone before her, is easily manipulated and taken advantage of. Another girl, lets a drunkened fool take advantage of her, and gets herself captured within a page of writting after she escapes. Like I said before. It has potential, it could be a really cool story line. But, it felt very, very rushed. I wouldn’t pay the $10. There are also several grammar/spelling issues. I counted at least 10-20 thoughout my read. I also feel like metaphors and symbols were forced, especially the hawk related ones. And plot moments were added in a rush because they were forgotten before. Again, there is potential. But I will not continue to read this series.
