At the start of winter, the local farmer was found dead on a mountain road after his farm burned to the ground. Villagers whisper that his death had something to do with the local cryptids, the Dark Watchers: ghostly shadows that lurk on foggy foothills, only visible to a select unlucky few.

For the farmer's closeted trans granddaughter Robyn Fields, fleeing across the country and unexpectedly inheriting the farm seemed like a great opportunity to drown out her gender thoughts through constant farmwork. But her efforts seem to provoke the attention of those ominous shadows.

Local vineyard heir Ash Grantor has seen them for over a decade without incident, and knew he was a trans man for about as long. Bottling himself up worked out just fine-at least, until he got arrested and disinherited for interfering with his father's plans to trick the new farmer into signing away the property. Before Ash can do anything drastic like fleeing the country with his embezzled funds, Robyn invites Ash and his two friends to move onto the farm and rebuild the farmhouse together.

But with the Watchers around, the fields refuse to yield. And when Robyn and Ash find themselves growing into something closer than farmmates, long-repressed feelings bubble to the surface, causing the Dark Watchers to draw ever nearer. To save the farm and avoid grandpa's haunting fate, can they cast their secrets aside and bloom together?
