What People Are Saying About Katie Ruggle's Romantic Suspense:
“I love Ruggle’s characters. They’re sharply drawn, and vividly alive. I’m happy when they find each other. These are wonderful escapist books.”—CHARLAINE HARRIS, #1 New York Times Bestselling author of the Sookie Stackhouse series
"Sexy and suspenseful, I couldn't turn the pages fast enough."—JULIE ANN WALKER, New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author for Hold Your Breath

PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
In the second of Ruggle's fast-paced romantic suspense series set in the Rocky Mountains, firefighter Ian Walsh (a minor character in Hold Your Breath) is named a suspect in a murder previously discovered by a Search & Rescue team. Rory Sorenson, the pretty but shy proprietor of the local gun shop where she sells both legal and illegal weapons and is constantly fending off violent customers, with no one to help her or back her up has cherished a crush on Ian for years and is certain he is innocent. Having grown up without much family, Ian appreciates the brotherhood he found in a motorcycle club, but when the more extreme members threaten Rory and her business, he recognizes the danger they pose and takes Rory's side. Her bizarre, sheltered upbringing by her survivalist parents adds a tender element to their developing romance. When Ian is arrested, Rory's indignation finally empowers her to step out from the shadows and fight for a future with him. Ruggle delivers a longer and more developed story in this installment, full of surprisingly violent characters as well as romance. Readers may cringe at the depiction of Rory's job, which makes selling firearms look implausibly unsafe, and wonder how her offer to volunteer at the fire station somehow leads to her fighting a fire without any training, but the soap opera aspects of the ongoing story will keep them eager for more revelations about this small Colorado town.

SYNOPSIS:
In the remote Rocky Mountains, lives depend on the Search & Rescue brotherhood. But in a place this far off the map, trust is hard to come by and secrets can be murder...
As a Motorcycle Club member and firefighter, Ian Walsh is used to riding the line between the good guys and the bad. He may owe the Club his life, but his heart rests with his fire station brothers...and with the girl he's loved since they were kids, Rory Sorenson. Ian would do anything for Rory. He'd die for her. Kill for her. Defend her to his last breath-and he may just have to.
Every con in the Rockies knows Rory is the go-to girl for less-than-legal firearms, and for the past few years, she's managed to keep the peace between dangerous factions by remaining strictly neutral. But when she defends herself against a brutal attack, Rory finds herself catapulted into the center of a Motorcycle Club war-with only Ian standing between her and a threat greater than either of them could have imagined.
MY THOUGHTS:
This is the first time I have read this author and I found she weaves a good story with romance, action, suspense and intrigue. This is the second book in the series, however, there is a novella (0.5) that kicks off the series. Fan the Flames can be read as a standalone.
Rory Sorenson owns the local gun shop and has been crushing on Ian Walsh for years. Rory was raised by survivalist parents that originally owned the gun shop, however, in fear of the state of the world, they committed suicide. Leaving Rory alone to face the world, she makes her own clothes, and lives in an underground bunker, where she grew up, below the gun shop. She feels she has very few social skills; she is awkward when she talks with people when it isn’t about guns. She was home schooled and didn’t have a lot of exposure to the outside world, except for the gun shop.
Ian Walsh was born into the MC life, as his deceased father was a member. His loyalties are torn between his MC brothers and his firefighter brothers. Ian is a sweet, caring man. He has waited for Rory for years. He fell in love with her when they were just kids. Ian does everything to get Rory to take a chance on him and after going through a few tragedies, Rory learns that she is finally ready to take the chance on a relationship with Ian.
There are corrupt MC members and a rival faction that threatens everything that Rory has built and puts Ian in a tough position. You are given a few clues as the book unfolds and then disaster strikes. Rory finally has to admit to herself and Ian that she is in love with him. They work together to protect Rory’s livelihood, Ian’s innocence in a murder investigation and their relationship.
This is a sweet love story with a little spice. Rory and Ian were great characters and there is a great supporting cast. If you like screaming hot firemen and a sweet love story, then this is the book for you. I highly recommend it.
