Publisher Description
Far From the Madding Crowd offers in ample measure the details of English rural life that Hardy so relished. The book might also be described as an early piece of feminist literature, since it features an independent woman with the courage to defy convention by running a farm herself. Hardy explores the proper basis for a happy marriage.

Meaningful, and so very poignant.
Truly classic
The gripping tale of shepherd Gabriel Oak and the beautiful woman he loves, who finally after devastating events sees his worth! The English countryside of the 19th century is poetically described along with its colorful natives. Clear in this work is Thomas Hardy the poet and the architect. A very absorbing read.
Love It
Thomas Hardy is simply a genius. His elegant sense of humor is something to be desired in many authors. His writing is excellent, although a little verbose at times. Far from the madding crowd is just a beautiful story.
