Faraway Star

The only thing Raljebi's gotten out of college on distant Algeron is an exemption from the draft on his home planet. When his friend Quilq drops out to join a movement against the imperialistic war raking the galaxy, Raljebi decides to join him. But escaping the war proves harder than it seems. The peace commune turns out to be a squalid hellhole. A cult of xenophobic aliens wants the protesters dead. And when Raljebi falls in love with a woman from his planet's enemy, the price of peace grows ever higher. There might be one place in the universe that's safe...but it's farther away than he's ever imagined.
