Washington, D.C., Metro Police Detective Sergeant Sam Holland needs a big win to salvage her career—and her confidence—after a disastrous investigation. The perfect opportunity arises when Senator John O'Connor is found brutally murdered in his bed, and Sam is assigned to the case. Matters get complicated when Sam has to team up with Nick Cappuano, O'Connor's friend and chief of staff…and the man Sam had a memorable one-night stand with years earlier. Their sexual chemistry still sizzles, and Sam has to fight to stay focused on the case. Sleeping with a material witness is another mistake she can't afford—especially when the bodies keep piling up.

Wow, for book 1
I can’t wait for book 2
Fatal to the End
Great murder mystery. Didn’t have to have all the intermingling between cop and the Senator’s Chief of Staff, but still a good read.
Death and Politics
Overall, great book. It did start out kinda slow for me, but picked up momentum the further we got in the story. It starts right off with the Senator's murder and the first half of the book was more about Sam interviewing suspects with the secondary story being about her reconnecting with Nick, the Senator's Chief of Staff and Sam's old flame. It took about half way through the book before I felt like the story really picked up. Once things started to heat up, I began to really enjoy this book more. This story is definitely for readers who love a good "who done it" plot with politics thrown in .
I received a complementary copy from NetGalley but I also purchased the audio book. I loved the Narrator. I've listened to a handful and she did the best impersonations of the men's character I've heard to date. I had no trouble distinguishing the switch in characters.
