Publisher Description

Fathers and Sons is a novel written by Russian novelist, short story writer and playwright Ivan Sergeyevich Turgenev in 1862. It is regarded as one of the major works of 19th century and one if his best-known works.

The novel refers to the growing generation gap between two generations. The character named Yevgeny Bazarov is a nihilist, who rejects the old order. Turgenev created the novel under impression of growing cultural break he saw between liberals of 1830s/1840s and nihilist movement. Turgenev's novel was responsible for popularizing the term nihilism, which became widely used after the novel was published.

The novel is also one of the first Russian works to get distinction in Western world and getting approval of famous novelists like Gusave Flaubert, Guy de Maupassant and Henry James.
