Determined to reveal her suspicions, Briar takes the plans and heads for the newspaper office in Columbus, stealing the family boat in the process. Kidnapping her cousin’s handsome business partner wasn’t part of the plan, but when he shows up, demanding the return of his property, she can’t let him go. After all, if Briar can prove that the railroad is using ferromancy, she could save more than her boat. She could save her way of life.

Entertaining and Engaging
I am a fan of engaging characters, verisimilitude provided in the actions and details of everyday life and the natural environment, and the interaction and development of characters and relationships. This book hits on all three and, as a result, resonated with me as a reader. It also includes an interesting take on magic as well as a good dose of mystery and discovery, which elevates the story in my regard. It also helps that the story does not drip with gratuitous romance and frequent bodily tingling and warmth, although I fear that might escalate in subsequent volumes.
