Publisher Description

Introduction This is the first of a series of features planned for publication on figures in the history of the BAA. By its very nature the series will be irregular, and variable in content and length depending upon the information available. The individuals discussed will not normally have had an obituary in the Journal following their death, despite in some instances long service. Because of the passage of time and the passing of many who knew them, little new information will be available; what little is given is therefore largely gleaned from published sources and from meeting reports of the Association. While it may be that little or no information is available concerning their astronomical work, at least this will provide some personal details about the subject. Please note that as the sources use Imperial measures, these are given here, with metric equivalents in brackets.
