Publisher Description

Filmmaking is a unique, illustrated guide to and appraisal of the basic narrative and structural techniques employed, either consciously or intuitively, by all successful filmmakers.

Filled with examples from popular films and television shows, this book seamlessly joins theory and practice in an accessible approach to filmmaking that offers all novice filmmakers—directors, screenwriters, editors, and producers—a framework of common-sense principles and guidelines that are germane to all modes of cinematic expression.

Bob Foss began his film career in the early 1970s as a documentary filmmaker. In the 1980s, his interest and activities turned to screenwriting. He is the co-author of the Oscar-nominated feature The Pathfinder and the co-writer of the screenplay for Disney's Shipwreck. Mr. Foss has conducted numerous film courses at the Dramatic Institute of Stockholm and developed Filmmaking in conjunction with the Swedish Television Training Center.
