Extremely Thorough And Well Explained
This book does an excellent job of explaining the steps need to take control of and understand and manage at least the important basics of using your computer on the Internet. There are so many useful recommendations, tips and explanations here. The book is highly comprehensive with lots of explanations, not just of the technologies themselves but also the background and issues and trends that provide context and relevance.
However, be forewarned that in order to really get the most out of this you're going have to be willing to go through and actually read a lot of this stuff. Reading a lot of it takes time. Carey has done a very good job of explaining the various subjects for a mostly non-technical audience. So if have the patience to go through the book, learn and apply you can benefit greatly from it.
This book contains all of the information that I wish that I could give to all of my non-techie friends and family so that they'd be more aware and better prepared online. Alas if they would only read it. :-/
Finally, if you are quite technically savvy and comfortable on-line then you will likely still benefit and learn a few things just because the book is so complete and comprehensive. Although you'll probably be skipping around a lot more.
