Publisher Description
Experience the true nature of terror in this "deliciously imaginative" (San Francisco Chronicle) horror thriller from #1 New York Times bestselling author Peter Straub.
The quiet suburban town of Hampstead is threatened by two horrors. One is natural. The hideous unstoppable creation of man’s power gone mad. The other is not natural at all. And it makes the first look like child’s play...
“Unspeakable horror…has ‘Bestseller’ written all over it.”—Los Angeles Times
“Straub’s effects are quite spectacular…I was fairly awed by some of the more nightmarish scenes in Floating Dragon.”—The New York Times

Excellent supernatural chiller!
This is one of only five books I’ve read by Peter Straub, and it’s a great horror story! The only downside to this book is that it is populated by a few too many characters, making it hard to keep up with exactly who’s who, with the exception of the main characters. That one small detail, however, does nothing to stop the story from being an eerie, exciting tale of supernatural terror! I highly recommend it! And if you like this book, I also recommend Julia, a ghost story that is superior to Straub’s popular horror classic of the same title! With Julia, Peter Straub does a great job of blending a traditional ghost story with a suspenseful mystery, making the book a solid hybrid of supernatural terror and psychological terror! Enjoy Floating Dragon! By the way, you’ll be sleeping with the lights on after you’ve finished the book! Consider yourself warned!
Just not that good
Some interesting bits, but overall bloated with too many under-developed ideas and characters. Character motivations and actions often make no sense.
Floating Dragon
One of the few books I've read more than once. When I read it the first time I was very young and I just didn't absorb some of the nuances but having read it now I got so much more out of the story. I good story that takes you to the heart of a small town gone crazy.
