Publisher Description
The Duke of Jervaulx was brilliant and dangerous. Considered dissolute, reckless, and extravagant, he was transparently referred to as the ′D of J′ in scandal sheets, where he and his various exploits featured with frequency. But sometimes the most womanising rake can be irresistible, and even his most casual attentions fascinated the sheltered Maddy Timms, quiet daughter of a simple mathematician.

Great love story
Beautiful love story. Dragged a bit, but worth it in the end. One of my new favorites.
Loved this unique read!
I love anything Laura Kinsale and have been working my way through all of her books. This one was especially unique, given the main characters’ backgrounds. Before deciding to give it a read, I had read some dubious reviews of how unlikable the heroine of the story is and how the plot is farfetched. It almost kept me from this book. And then I remembered why I never listen to reviews about books or movies and prefer to go in mostly blind; everyone’s tastes are different! I love how Kinsale creates these fantastical characters rooted in their humanity. Deeply flawed, frustrating as all get out, and yet, they’re endearing. This one is more of a slow-burner on the romance side of things, but it burned so good! Honestly, her storytelling is so compelling that the steamy scenes are more of an added bonus. Thoroughly enjoyed this one. Why did I ever doubt for a second that I wouldn’t fall in love with another Laura Kinsale book?!
The worst book I ever read
The plot is ridiculous. The FMC is quite possibly the most self-righteous, sanctimonious, and hypocritical character I’ve ever had the displeasure of reading about. I cannot comprehend how people consider this a classic 5 star read.
