He needs to get her out of his system. Just once…

Hank Weller doesn’t help people. He leaves that do-gooder nonsense to his best friend, Beau Winston. Hank does what he wants, when he wants, with whomever he wants—and Hank does not want to hire Charlotte Mitchell to be an exotic dancer at his club, The Pink Pony. Sure, he can’t help noticing the dips and curves of her, how shrewd, smart, and funny she is, the fire in her hazel eyes. He’s always noticed. She’d probably draw a crowd and entice the regulars. But after Charlotte’s messy, public divorce made Hank’s club out to be the culprit—and made her the single mother of four kids—he doesn’t need or want any additional bad press courtesy of Charlotte Mitchell. Or the distraction. Unfortunately for him, the town’s prettiest charity case doesn’t seem to understand the meaning of the words nope, no, and never.

Charlotte Mitchell doesn’t much like Hank Weller. Once upon a time, she used to. Years ago, she liked him a whole heckofalot despite other folks in town labeling him as “eccentric” and “nonconformist,” which were polite southern alternatives to “filthy rich” and “self-centered douchebag.” Her opinion of him changed dramatically after he volunteered to be her date to junior prom and then promptly stood her up. They haven’t so much as acknowledged each other in over a decade. But a sudden family emergency means Charlotte needs access to Hank’s club ASAP.  Unfortunately for her, the narcissistic fancy-pants doesn’t seem to understand the meaning of the words help, generosity, and compassion.

But he’s about to find himself schooled. Charlotte is going to teach Hank a lesson once and for all about basic human decency, whether he likes it or not.

Spoiler alert. . . he likes it. 😉

Wow, just wow!!!

I read everything Penny Reid writes. However with this book she surprised me by having me fall in love with a character that had not intrigued me in previous books. I should have expected nothing less because Penny writes realistic, flawed characters that draw you in. Heck by chapter 7 I was in love with Hank and in need of a hankie. After this book you,ll want to read everything she has written. I recommend you start with the Winston Brothers Series. But you can’t go wrong reading anything she has written.

Fabulous!

I have been waiting for Hank’s happy ending and was not disappointed. Sadly life made the reading to slow due to work commitments but Penny Reid never disappoints. Hank never wanted to settle down until Charlotte walks into the Pink Pony asking for a job. After being bullied into hiring her not as a dancer but his bookkeeper he felt he would never been good enough for her.

Charlotte is desperately trying to find her cousin and her latest lead brings her to a strip club. Asking Hank for an audition as a dancer and him rejecting her hurts. When he comes to her for a bookkeeping job she is intrigued. She loves numbers and is horrified at his system. Bring it up to date is her mission as well as finding her cousin. The sparks begin to fly between her and Hank and he keeps backing away. Charlotte is determined to show Hank he has value and forget the rest.

Hanks soon meets her kids and is so drawn to them. I love how Hank realized love and family is so important to him. I loved Charlotte and Hank’s story!

Wonderful character growth

I admit it, I started the story really wary but I didn't like Hank. At all. He seemed selfish, self absorbed and just plain mean. And then, magically, Penny Reid weaved this story about personal growth, filled with humor and love, and I fell for Hank too. Hank, who is abrupt and grumpy but with a heart and love for people, especially those in his inner circle. Single mom Charlotte, with 4 children has a difficult life and no one to take care of her. She is always taking care of others, including her aunt and uncle, where she appeals to Hank to take her in as a stripper in his club so that she can track down her cousin for them. Heart of gold and a wonderful mother, I loved her immediately.

The Winston brothers, whom I also love, feature heavily in this book as Hank is their friend. What a wonderful return to this series!
