wholly engaging, deliciously decadent and as filling as the most perfect chocolat chaud

A debut offering from author Jessica Tom will have your mouth watering, even as you push on through the story. Luscious food descriptions, tastes and textures are easy to envision as Tia regroups after not getting an internship, THE internship with a renowned food critic turned cookbook author.

But, all is not lost as she is approached with an offer, the current star critic for the Times has lost his taste buds, and she enters into the food elite, undercover and in secret. She’s unable to share this latest coup with anyone: not her roommates, her boyfriend or even her parents, even as the decisions she’s made, and the secrecy she agreed to are taking a toll.

Tia’s decisions aren’t always good ones, being so focused on one goal led her into trouble more than once, and it took some time for her to realize that her deal just may have been more than she bargained for. Truly, she is growing up, adjusting her life goals and finding herself, deciding what is important and necessary to her life throughout the story, and I can honestly say that her ability to recognize and adjust to make those changes showed her in a far more positive light.

New York City becomes a character, as much as the food or the moments of romance for Tia are, wholly engaging, deliciously decadent and as filling as the most perfect chocolat chaud, you’ll be satisfied and sated, finding an appropriate ending that will have you surfing the web looking for new recipes to fit the inspired and imaginative pairings and tastes experienced in the book.
