One of the best books I’ve read in a while

In the Empire’s Throne, the plot is based on the king of a land called Braavadom. The king learns from an oracle that his health will one day begin to fail, so he wants to try to set up his spunky daughter to take lead of the empire with a man he assigns as her husband. The king’s daughter does not know about his plans. The man the king wants as his daughter’s husband is a foreigner. A foreigner has never before led Braavadom. Only a people called Vittans have ever run the kingdom, and the king wanting to put someone in power who is not a Vittan upsets the Royal Houses (the other governing bodies in the kingdom). Each Royal House is headed by a Vittan. They are under imperial law, but each Royal House leader rules over a designated area of the kingdom.

Also, the throne is not supposed to be passed down to family, and the king is not supposed to choose who takes over after him. The king wishes to step down before his eventual death in order to ensure that his House keeps power. The Royal Houses take issue with the king wanting to pass down the throne to his daughter. The Royal Houses are displeasured by these happenings, but the king pushes to keep his tyrannical reign by trying to pass down the throne to the foreigner, who will act as a puppet leader. The king threatens war if the leaders of the Royal Houses do not act according to his wishes. I do not want to spoil anymore of the book, but you will see how it plays out!

The book is pretty violent, and will make you think. I enjoyed the author’s points on government corruption and the fears some people have on foreigners running nations. It makes you think about bigger issues. I bought the book, and had it finished within a couple days, because I was so wrapped up in it.
