As Roy steeled himself to strike first, the Indian bent into his dugout, then came up with a woman struggling in his arms. Roy was paralyzed by sudden fear. The woman was Mary, the girl he loved! 


Before Roy could spring, Chittamicco, with a mighty heft of his shoulders, lifted Mary on one extended palm. Then with a violent thrust he tossed her limp body into the swirling water.
