Fractal Geometry

In the preface to his book “Fractals Everywhere” Michael Barnsley writes: 

“Fractal geometry will make you see everything differently. There is danger in reading further. You risk the loss of your childhood vision of clouds, forests, galaxies, leaves, feathers, flowers, rocks, mountains, torrents of water, carpets, bricks and much else besides. Never again will your interpretation of things be quite the same.”

In the last decades of the 20th century, scientists discovered a new way of understanding the growth and complexity of nature. 

This is an accessible introduction to fractals. 

This book has been written for a broad audience. The author hopes that the non-specialist reader will be able to follow the chapters without major difficulties. I did not include, or set apart, wherever possible,  subjects requiring a deeper knowledge of mathematics.

We start with the notion of self similarity, show the classic fractals, how to generate them and the concept of fractal dimension. The two last chapters show the astonishing images of the Mandelbrot fractal, as well a selection of  beautiful images generated by fractal artists.

The book is richly illustrated with images, and videos, and uses the resources of interactivity offered by modern e-book technology.
