The first work of science fiction, this story challenges readers to remove the abstractions of fantasy to seriously consider the meaning of the ideas put forth. What responsibility does a creator have to its sentient creations? How can a being exiled from society, based solely upon what they look like, ever be kind? Set some time aside to explore these and other questions for yourself in this cultural touchstone: Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein.

Same theme over and over, ad nauseum
How wretched can two beings be? Apparently 180 pages worth, where they both describe, in case you did not understand the first time, how wretched and miserable they really are. And the second time, and theirs, and on and on and on. Not sure why this book ever caught on, and any interpretation I have seen has strayed from the book in very measurable, sometimes unrecognizable ways, but all for the better.
And why did Frankenstein bring this hideous thing to life, knowing how hideous it was? He stitched the damn thing together, he should have been repulsed by it well before he imbued it with life. So the whole premise does not ring true for me.
Everyone speaks in the same voice, even the creature, which adds to the boredom of reading it.
Some of the language is beautiful though, hence the two star rating.
An emotional roller coaster
This book was very enjoyable to someone who finds reading boring. Both Frankenstein and the monster reflect each other in their various actions. You really get to see not only the emotions of Frankenstein but those around him including the wretched monster.
