Fraud Awareness

Fraud Awareness is about a 21st century crime, personal fraud, that will affect every one of us. It is becoming so prevalent in our society that no one is immune to it. It is no longer a question of, if you will be a victim of one of these crimes, but when you will be a victim. What will you do when it happens?

The defining number for personal fraud is 37.5%. Police forces around the globe recognize this number as the percentage of people who, when defrauded once, will be defrauded again. In North America, people who are defrauded once, will on average, be defrauded another three times.

The book will examine the business of fraud to get a better understanding of who the fraudsters are and how they go about acquiring our personal information. The techniques they use, like phishing, pharming, vishing, spoofing and many others will be explained. We will follow the supply chain as our personal information is stolen, enriched and resold over the Dark Web. We will learn how criminals use our personal information from the supply chain to perpetrate frauds against us.

The book will make sense out of the increasing number of frauds we keep hearing about. We will group them into major types. We will examine each type to identify what makes them unique. We will then use this information to identify some practical things we can do to protect ourselves from them. By analyzing personal frauds in this way and grouping the profusion of similar variations into major types we will be better able to deal with their intrusions.

Being able to identify a fraud and understanding how frauds work, is the best way to educate ourselves. Learning what actions we need to take before this happens will minimize our exposure and mitigate our pain. Finally, the book will provide a comprehensive list of what to do and who to contact when you become a victim.
