Publisher Description
“A thrilling story of seduction, betrayal, and loss, Freud’s Mistress will titillate fans of Memoirs of a Geisha and The Other Boleyn Girl.”—Booklist
In fin-de-siècle Vienna, it was not easy for a woman to find fulfillment both intellectually and sexually.
But many believe that Minna Bernays was able to find both with one man—her brother-in-law, Sigmund Freud.
At once a portrait of two sisters—the rebellious, independent Minna and her inhibited sister, Martha—and of the compelling and controversial doctor who would be revered as one of the twentieth century’s greatest thinkers, Freud’s Mistress is a novel rich with passion and historical detail and “a portrait of forbidden desire [with] a thought-provoking central question: How far are you willing to go to be happy?”*

Freud's Mistress
Couldn't put the book down. Enjoyed the story.
Surprisingly educational
Although the book was focused on Minna, Freud's sister in law and the affair, it wasn't centered on it. I was expecting more of a Novel based on an affair but was pleasantly surprised on how it was incorporated into his (Freud's) works and case studies. Too bad my Psych text books weren't written like this back in the day.
Loved this Book!
After reading The Aviator's Wife, Paris Wife and Loving Frank, I was dubious as to whether I could handle another story about a jilted wife. This book was terrific, and full of surprises. As noted in another review, you gain valuable insight into the accomplishments of Freud, his theories, and character. I instantly liked Minna. This book is filled with surprises and proves to us that there are decision points in our lives that change our path forever. Truly depicts the Road Not Taken.
