From the Edge

In prose and poetry, the author draws an evocative but unsentimental portrait of a lost working-class culture. He does so primarily through the story of a boy growing up during the postwar decades. His Welsh village is in the twilight years of the industries which built and defined it. What happens when a community, and a national identity, lose their foundations? Do you become, as one poem suggests, "no more than an accent, a postcode"?
