Cornelia was the only one that could defeat Secundus in the election for Auditor of the Senate of Augusta, and she understood how dangerous he would become if he got what he wanted. Unfortunately, he was going to win unless something radically changed.

There was only one way it could change. Secundus was sponsoring a week of games, and at the end of them, his champion, Crassus, would be fighting a match for all of Augusta to see. Cornelia needed him to lose that fight, to be humiliated, and in turn humiliate Secundus, make him lose the support of the more martial-oriented senators.

The problem was that the one fighting against Crassus, Astoria, had a reputation for throwing matches down if the coin was good enough, and Cornelia was certain her opponent would pay a small fortune for the amazon to lose her fight.

Cornelia had to convince the other woman to win, and with the help of her friends she succeeded at getting a meeting with the amazon. Unfortunately, the price the amazon asked her was quite steep, and the senator didn't know if she was willing to pay it.
