Together, beyond death…
A new unnatural horror is about to rattle Hannah Miles’ quiet existence, and it’s not the short-tempered viscount prowling the hallways. Someone is creating a monster by stitching together pieces of different people. When a limb makes an escape attempt, Viscount Wycliff is called to investigate. All of London knows there is one mad scientist among them capable of creating such an ungodly monster… Sir Hugh Miles.
Hannah’s father is suspected of a most heinous crime and she is determined to clear his name, even as Wycliff works to see the murderer hang. Buried secrets that touch all their lives will be brought to the surface. One such secret belongs to Hannah and could tear her world apart.
With Hannah and Wycliff on opposing sides, can they find the real monster and will it be the hand that wields the scalpel, or the creature hiding in the dark?

Galvanism and Ghouls
The author managed to make a disembodied hand cute and was easily my favorite part of the story. Frank just staring at the bubbles was both adorable and relatable.
Having said that, this book felt very young adult despite Hannah being 22 and proclaimed no longer a child in the previous book. “But Hannah was nothing if not pragmatic.” The author wrote, in all seriousness, after Hannah just finished bursting into tears, fleeing a challenging conversation that unsettled her dream of a fairy tale future, the lack of which she previously claimed she’d accepted but repeatedly demonstrates she hasn’t.
The plot is predictable, the first clue against the culprit too big, and the series is starting to feel a bit formulaic. Lots of rehashing information and events were often over-explained. Pointing out jokes kills the effect. Wycliff’s circular arguments are getting old, though with his character development they will likely cease, and Hannah’s empathy is rather inconsistent considering she’s connecting with Frank one second and having no concern for him getting chased by the militia after they shot him the next.
There is a continuity error with Wycliff’s rooms previously stated to be on the second floor with a study on the first, but here it’s on the first floor with the study on the ground floor. It’s also unclear how Wycliff knows Hannah can sense magic.
