Publisher Description

To this day Genesis remain on of the most popular acts in rock music. Many fans hark back to the golden period of the early seventies, when the ranks included superb guitarist Steve Hackett and above all the charismatic front man Peter Gabriel.

This fully illustrated eBook tells the story of those halcyon days, when albums such as Nursery Cryme, The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway and Foxtrot took the music scene by storm. The narrative tells the fascinating stories of the inspiration behind and the making of those remarkable albums that changed the face of rock music and still provide the backbone of the band’s live set to this very day.

The author reviews each of these albums as part of a full discography. Through the words of the band members themselves, we are afforded a glimpse of the creative process, the pressures of being part of one of the most successful rock groups in the world and of the tensions which led to the eventual departure of Gabriel from the band.

Interesting dip into history.

I enjoyed the idea of this book. I enjoyed reading all of the current (at the time) write ups on the band. It gives someone like me, who missed all of that, a glimpse of what it might have been like for the guys. I grew up the child of a musician and saw first hand what the long hours and miles did to a group. This book could have been better without the interview with Steve Hackett at the end. He's a whining twit who doesn't seem to have 'grown up' or away from Genesis, yet doesn't hesitate to slam the members or the group in nearly every interview. If his time with them was so horrid and he has so many negatives to share, the. Why does he continue to play their songs as his own? None of the other band mates play Genesis material in their solo careers, nor do they pick apart each other the way Hackett does.
